Ray Payette Award
The Ray Payette Award is given to a member of the Legion Athletic Camps "Task Force" who goes above and beyond their daily duties.
It is named in honour of Raymond Payette who is now retired in New Westminster, British Columbia.
Payette, born August 29, 1947, was an active member for many years at the camp starting at the age of 16.
"The Legion Athletic Camp enabled me to meet, work and communicate with people of all ages, and make life-long friends," says Payette. "This involvement improved my self esteem, developed my ability to make decisions and encouraged me to strive for my personal best every day. I am particularly grateful to Fred Taylor and George Philips, both of who became my friends and mentors and gave me the chance to be involved. The positive effects of the Legion Athletic Camp continue throughout my life."
